Sumba – Forgotten island is an illustrated book about the beautiful Indonesian island of Sumba. Indonesia is a huge country in Southeast Asia, made up of approximately 12.000 islands known as an archipelago. These islands are spread out over a massive area, many remain uninhabited by humans.
Sumba is a magnificent island steeped in ancient culture and traditions , edge by stunning, undeveloped beaches, crystal clear blue seas, and home to vast, wild savannas and sprawling rainforests teeming with wildlife. Beautiful as it is, Sumba is also one of the most impoverished islands in Indonesian. The majority of people live in very simple houses with little food to eat and poor access to water. Many children don’t go to school. Nutrition is poor due to lack of education and food, disease is widespread and many children die before the reach their fifth birthday.
A Catholic Priest Robert Ramone from the Redemptorist Congregation, the founder of the Rumah Budaya Sumba who also author of this book, has a passionate love about Sumba.
